Australian Winters

Before I moved to Australia, I thought it was 365-day dry heat with flies everywhere, and that people wore wide brim hats with corks hanging around the rim.

It is Winter here at the moment, and the temperature regularly drops to 12 at night and then up to anything from 15-22 in the day.

When it rains, it shakes the house and the roads / paths / gardens flood. All outdoor sport is cancelled due to the grounds being flooded (poor drainage - no football in our house for 4 weekends in a row now) and everyone has wet shoes and coats around their houses, which do not normally have much heating.

Then the sun eventually breaks through, and chilly mornings are typically followed by glorious crisp and sunny days.

You wake up (cold); have breakfast (cold); try to warm up in a shower but it normally takes too long; people hustle to buses, ferry's and trains (often in shorts and without coats, but with scarfs wrapped tight - v.cold); and then get on with their work/school/life. By around 10am however, the sun has often warmed the land and the clear clear blue skies make everything sparkle.

And yet another fantastic Australian day unfolds.

The blog finally starts

G'day from Sydney.

This is the first post of a blog that I decided to start 3 years ago.

The LinkedIn group was formed and a member of the team was assigned the role of validating members of the on-line community.

Next step - a domain name was secured, and potential sponsors and advertisers contacted and then ..... Hmmmm........ Content. Brick wall for 1 year.

The following year..... Freelance writers interviewed. Hmmmm

Another year passes and the idea of ME producing the content re-raises its head. I read an article on a blogger / come journalist who interviews people on his mobile and then writes his blog from the same mobile. Hmmmmm.... That could work.

Another year later and here we are. A rainy Saturday night in Sydney and I have been experimenting with writing a blog from my iPhone.

Setting things up on my laptop - I have now moved to the iPhone.

This photo and this content has all been produced on my little hand held device.

If this works, then regular (monthly perhaps??? Maybe even weekly??? You never know..... If this is as easy as it sounds, we could even be talking about daily - or more- posts, from the guy who believes in blogs but has a string of failed attempts behind him.

The idea is for a simple insight into daily life in Australia.

Nothing flash - just raw, as it is.

There will be typo's.
There will be out of focus photo's.
There will be recorded interviews that are muffled and unclear.

There will be no editing. This is blog-on-the-move.....or no-blog time. Pocket-Blogging is my only answer and my plan is for you to see Australia through my eyes.


I have lived here for 6.5 years now, and even when I am out of focus and a little blurred - this is still an absolutely beautiful country and I still cannot believe how lucky I am that I live here.

I wish I had been able to see into someone else's world when I was still in my old life, as the vision and motivation would have been greater, and I could have started this chapter earlier.
